Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a High school diploma or GED
Experience: Candidates should have experience and the authority to enforce the Criminal Code of Canada
Background Investigation: The successful candidate will need to successfully complete the following clearances: criminal history check, reference check, education verification, driver’s license verification, financial and credit check
Medical Requirements: CPKC prioritizes safety for people, customers, and assets. New hires, including Trainee Program participants, undergo comprehensive medical and drug assessments, ensuring a secure workplace

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be a Canadian citizen

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have completed full basic training with a recognized police service in Canada
  • The candidates should be a FIRST class police constable and be in good standing with a recognized Canadian federal, provincial, municipal or First Nations police service. Retired and recent law enforcement experience will be considered as long as it was within the last 24 months
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Canadian Criminal Justice System
  • The candidates should possess strong communication skills
  • The candidates should possess basic computer skills
  • The candidates should be able to successfully complete a fitness test (PARE, POPAT or PREP)
  • The candidates should possess a valid driver’s license for the province in which they are employed
  • The candidates should be qualified in First Aid, CPR and AED
  • The candidates should be able to meet CPPS Firearms and Use of Force Standards
  • The candidates should be able to complete and pass a psychological evaluation
  • The candidates should be able to complete and pass a polygraph exam

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure public safety through enforcement and education
  • The candidates should be able to engage in the prevention and detection of crime
  • The candidates should be able to enforce Federal, Provincial, and municipal laws, statutes, and by-laws
  • The candidates should be able to conduct criminal and collision investigations
  • The candidates should be able to provide emergency response to incidents and calls for service
  • The candidates should be able to protect Railway assets, operations, and personnel
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with other Law Enforcement Agencies during investigations and joint enforcement operations
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a good working knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to effectively and efficiently plan, manage, and prioritize workload and conduct general and directed patrols
  • The candidates should be able to be prepared to travel on assignments, in response to incidents, and for training
  • The candidates should be able to provide assistance to victims of crime
  • The candidates should be able to prepare comprehensive reports and prosecution files and deliver court testimony
  • The candidates should be able to manage and escort prisoners
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work shiftwork, weekends, and statutory holidays
