Manitoba Government’s Department of Manitoba Justice is responsible for overseeing the administration of justice and legal services in the province. It manages the courts, corrections, and legal aid services. It ensures access to justice, upholds the rule of law, and promotes public safety and security within the province, contributing to a fair and equitable society. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a Bachelor of Social Work degree or an equivalent related Social Sciences degree, equivalent combinations of education and experience
Experience: Candidates should have extensive case management experience in the social services field providing a full range of direct services to clients like interviewing, performing assessments, planning, counselling, providing referrals and follow-up

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be willing to undertake occasional overnight travel
  • The candidates should have the ability to travel to remote communities via airplane
  • The candidates should be prepared for occasional work outside of regular working hours and weekends
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work under pressure and manage stress effectively while working in a high volume, high-stress work environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search and possess a valid full stage Class 5 Driver’s License, access to a vehicle, and the ability to travel for government business purposes
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to provide and maintain a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and have a satisfactory Enhanced Security Screening Level IV
  • The candidates should be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check and have knowledge of the effects of trauma, grief, and loss
  • The candidates should have experience working with victims of domestic violence and child abuse and have experience working with families at risk of or experiencing conflict
  • The candidates should possess a sound understanding of Indigenous culture and customs, including history and justice-related issues
  • The candidates should have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of government, colleagues, teams, organizations, and other stakeholder groups
  • The candidates should demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills and exhibit excellent written communication skills
  • The candidates should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions and possess excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads
  • The candidates should have experience with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and Outlook) or equivalent applications and possess a sound understanding of Manitoba’s Victims’ Bill of Rights Act, The Domestic Violence and Stalking Act, and other relevant provincial and federal legislation
  • The candidates should have an understanding of the criminal justice and family law system, including the Family Resolution Service

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide victims of crime and those experiencing or at risk of intimate partner violence with general information regarding the Criminal Justice and family law systems
  • The candidates should be able to offer emotional support, risk assessments, safety & protection planning, including assistance with protection orders and community referrals
  • The candidates should be able to guide victims of crime and clients experiencing domestic violence through the complexities of the Justice and family Systems, providing analysis, interpretation, and assessment of victim and client needs and ensuring appropriate support and intervention
  • The candidates should be able to interview, assess, and counsel victims and/or clients experiencing domestic violence, child abuse, and victims of the most serious crimes as defined within the designated offences regulation of The Victims’ Bill of Rights Act, The Domestic Violence and Stalking Act, Family Modernization, and other relevant provincial and federal legislation
  • The candidates should be able to guide their clients through the criminal justice, family law, and Family Resolution systems
  • The candidates should be able to provide screening, assessments, safety plans, and counseling, including advising victims and clients of their options, rights, and responsibilities as victims of crime
  • The candidates should be able to support, bridge, and navigate victims and clients involved in family law-related issues and Family Resolution Service while simultaneously enhancing their ability to make informed choices and increase their level of safety and the safety of those close to them
