Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a post-secondary degree
Experience: Candidates should have recent experience providing services for Yukon’s First Nations people and persons of Indigenous ancestry

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team setting

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have excellent knowledge of the culture, traditions, social history, and economic conditions of Yukon First Nations and TB screening, CPR C with AED certification and an RCMP vulnerable sector check
  • The candidates should have the ability to assess the health, social, and cultural needs relevant to First Nations residents while maintaining confidentiality and ability to plan, develop, and implement culturally relevant programs and events for First Nations groups
  • The candidates should have the ability to design and deliver education sessions to healthcare team members and ability to build partnerships with and obtain assistance from community partners, agencies, or other stakeholders
  • The candidates should have excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills and strong written and oral communication skills
  • The candidates should have WHMIS 2015 certification, Food Safe Level 1 certification and a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • The candidates should be able to travel within Whitehorse and occasionally throughout the territory and prepared for interaction with residents and their families, staff, and members of the public
  • The candidates should be able to handle possible exposure to animals, plants/flowers, second-hand smoke, infectious disease, and latex products; working in temperatures of approximately 75 degrees Fahrenheit (23 degrees Celsius) and prepared for exposure to weather conditions when working outside with residents
  • The candidates should be able to handle exposure to clients, family members, or co-workers experiencing high levels of emotional stress; potential emotional, verbal, and physical abuse from clients or family members; and activities such as sitting, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, driving, dismantling, and loading wheelchairs into vehicles
  • The candidates should have certificate in a healthcare or social services-related field and experience providing care or service to palliative residents and their families
