Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have 1 year Food Service Worker program or enrolled and attending a Food Service Worker program at a College of Applied Arts and Technology with completion expected within the year
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of 6 months of experience in institution health care food service

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to push/pull over 30 lbs
  • The candidates should have the ability to work under deadline pressures
  • The candidates should be alert, dependable, reliable, and tactful
  • The candidates should be capable of working under pressure
  • The candidates should have the ability to lift up to 30 lbs
  • The candidates should have the ability to lift safely and use aides where possible

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should obtain Food Handler Training and Certification within the timeframe determined by the employer
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Canada Food Guide, Ontario Public Health Act (Health Protection and Promotion Act: Food Premises), Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, Food Premises, and the “Sanitation Code” for Canada’s Food Industry
  • The candidates should be familiar with WHMIS guidelines
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point guidelines (HACCP)
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • The candidates should be able to take direction, learn procedures, and perform routine duties
  • The candidates should be self-motivated individuals
  • The candidates should respect residents’ rights and privacy
  • The candidates should be able to work effectively with others
  • The candidates should be able to organize work efficiently
  • The candidates should be capable of standing for prolonged periods of time
  • The candidates should be willing to work varying shifts, including
  • The candidates should maintain good personal hygiene

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to contribute to Hospitality Services’ responsibility for the planning, coordinated development, management, and implementation of food, nutrition, and environmental activities, programs, services, and initiatives for residents of a municipal long-term care facility
  • The candidates should be able to take responsibility for the preparation and/or serving of meals to residents, day centre clients, staff, and Meals-on-Wheels recipients, as well as catering during special events
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the cleaning and maintenance of Food Services equipment and utensils
  • The candidates should be able to handle the disposal of waste, with an emphasis on resident safety and engagement
  • The candidates should be able to perform their work in accordance with Public Health regulations
