Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of 1 year Food Service Worker program or enrolled and attending a Food Service Worker program at a College of Applied Arts and Technology with completion expected within the year
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of 6 months of experience in institution health care food service

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work effectively with others, organize work, and lift safely using aides where possible
  • The candidates should have the ability to lift up to 30 lbs, stand for prolonged periods of time, and push/pull over 30 lbs
  • The candidates should be able to work varying shifts, including early, late, and weekend shifts, and adhere to good personal hygiene practices

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should obtain Food Handler Training and Certification within the timeframe determined by the employer
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Canada Food Guide, Ontario Public Health Act (Health Protection and Promotion Act: Food Premises), Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, Food Premises, and the “Sanitation Code” for Canada’s Food Industry
  • The candidates should be familiar with WHMIS guidelines and Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point guidelines (HACCP)
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • The candidates should be able to take direction, learn procedures, and perform routine duties under deadline pressures
  • The candidates should be alert, dependable, reliable, and tactful, able to work under pressure, and self-motivated
  • The candidates should respect resident’s rights and privacy

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to prepare and/or serve meals to residents, day center clients, staff, and Meals-on-Wheels recipients, and cater during special events, as part of their responsibilities within Hospitality Services
  • The candidates should be able to clean and maintain Food Services equipment and utensils, ensuring compliance with Public Health regulations, Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, and Food Premises Act
  • The candidates should be able to dispose of waste, prioritizing resident safety and engagement, and adhering to regulations outlined in the Public Health regulations, Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, and Food Premises Act
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate effectively with other staff members and departments within Hospitality Services to ensure the overall well-being and satisfaction of the residents while carrying out food preparation, serving, and maintenance duties
