Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have experience in hydraulic investigation and analysis

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada and a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • The candidates should be able to travel frequently to work sites within the province and work for extended hours and periods of time
  • The candidates should be able to work in hazardous conditions such as water, construction equipment, roadway traffic noise, dust, hand/power tools, moving equipment, bending/lifting, carrying/twisting, insects, vegetation, and sharp objects

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a combination of education and experience in hydraulic design may be considered at a commensurate rate of pay
  • The candidates should have experience in hydraulic analysis and design, including applicable computer software HEC-RAS, HY8, Culvert Master, or equivalent, and ArcGIS
  • The candidates should have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external contacts, including the public
  • The candidates should have excellent written communication skills with the ability to maintain accurate records, prepare applicable correspondence, and develop technical reports
  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently and analyze information to make effective decisions and recommend alternative solutions, knowledge and understanding of survey practices
  • The candidates should have strong organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines, knowledge and understanding of Safety, Health, and Risk Management policies and procedures
  • The candidates should have knowledge of construction practices and procedures related to water management infrastructure
  • The candidates should have experience in reading, interpreting, and developing construction plans, specifications, and contract documents

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform hydraulic engineering activities and technical work related to inspection, field investigations, flow metering, and the design and construction of waterways infrastructure
  • The candidates should be able to conduct technical analysis, preliminary design, and detailed design for water control projects
  • The candidates should be able to manage projects, oversee contract administration, and supervise construction activities in compliance with departmental standards, policies, and specifications
  • The candidates should be able to provide quality assurance reviews for engineering drawings, reports, and plans prepared by regional staff and Engineering Service Providers (ESPs)
  • The candidates should be able to ensure compliance with the Department’s design and drafting standards when reviewing technical submissions
  • The candidates should be able to prepare environmental submissions and tender documents for projects related to Provincial Water Control Infrastructure
