Toronto Transit Commission, Department of Track & Structures – Structure Maintenance based in Toronto, ON is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Formwork Carpenter. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), Department of Track & Structures – Structure Maintenance oversees the upkeep of TTC’s infrastructure. The department ensures the reliability and safety of tracks and related structures. This department plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of Toronto’s transit system. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have grade 12 education, plus the successful completion of the apprenticeship training program or its equivalent for the Carpentry trade
Experience: Candidates should have have practical experience and knowledge specific to the construction of concrete forms/shoring, including material selection, pour stop bulkheads, expansion joints, specialized anchoring hardware, and placement of reinforcing steel, normally obtained through approximately 12 months of related experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should require a valid Certificate of Qualification as a General Carpenter issued by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
  • The candidates should be in possession of a valid non-probationary Class “G” Province of Ontario Driver’s Licence
  • The candidates should be prepared to attend and successfully complete various TTC in-house training programs, including DZ driver’s licence certification

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform a wide variety of moderately complex carpentry duties necessary to construct, repair, renovate, and maintain structural woodwork such as concrete forms, shoring, hoarding; building temporary framework, stairs, doors, partitions, walls, ceilings, etc.
  • The candidates should be able to involve in a variety of routine construction, maintenance, and repair work performed on bridge structures, tunnel structures, elevated guideways, retaining walls, slabs, etc.
  • The candidates should be able to perform maintenance and repair work duties, such as structure cleaning, abrasive blast cleaning, core drilling, steel and concrete repairs, concrete removals, and concrete placement and finishing, from time to time
  • The candidates should be able to work a 40-hour work week, involving night shifts with Thursday/Friday off-days
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate behaviors that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment
  • The candidates should be able to help remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies
