Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of hold a Law degree (LLB or JD) from an accredited Canadian university
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of ten years of experience as counsel
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have knowledge of leadership practices in people management, strategic planning, risk management, policy development, financial management, and stakeholder relationship management
- The candidates should possess broad legal expertise across a wide range of legal and regulatory issues, including corporate, contracts, IP, litigation, labor, employment, human rights, construction, real estate, charity, education, sexual violence, harassment, and free speech and a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide legal advice on governance, policy, and risk management
- The candidates should be able to oversee external legal counsel and manage external legal fees and contracts
- The candidates should be able to represent the university in litigation and manage privacy and compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)
- The candidates should be able to support senior leadership in strategic decision-making and handle complex legal issues across various domains contracts, employment and equity
- The candidates should be able to respond to inquiries from regulatory bodies or agencies and oversee obligatory reporting requirements
- The candidates should be able to make independent, high-impact decisions across the entire spectrum of the University’s operations in a fast-paced environment
