General labourer – farm
CanWest Farms based in Richmond, BC is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of General labourer – farm. CanWest Farms is the hard work and passion of our family, the Kallu family. We have been farming since the 1960’s in Richmond, BC. In the 1980s, our father and mother, Sukhbir and Kiran Kallu, harvested many fruits and vegetables, including strawberries, broccoli and sprouts. During the 90s, as their five children grew up, we modified the fruit market to specialize solely in cultivating and packaging blueberries. The Kallu kids revelled in learning from their parents, and grew up helping on the farm. To this day, we are proud to say that CanWest Farms remains family owned and operated. You can still see Sukhbir and Kiran in their farm market and in the blueberry fields, but majority of the work has now been passed down to their son, Humraj Kallu. The candidates who will get selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Work Setting: Candidates will get accommodation
Weight Handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
Own Tools/Equipment: Candidates should have steel-toed safety boots and gloves
Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language.
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications such as a high school, bachelor’s degree, a certificate or a diploma
Experience: Candidates need experience of 1 to less than 7 months
Type of Products: Perennials, seasonal plants and cut flowers
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should be able to work under pressure and in fast-paced environment
- The candidate should be able to work in tight deadlines able and able to work if overtime required
- The candidate should able to work repetitive tasks
- The candidate should be physically demanding

Responsibilities:
- The candidate should be able to hand harvesting vegetables
- The candidate should be able to hoe, plant, cultivate and irrigate crops
- The candidate should be able to pick stone and/or wood and Vegetable culling
- The candidate should be able to operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment
- The candidate should be able to detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock and poultry and examine produce for quality and prepare for market
- The candidate should set and monitor water lines, air flow and temperature in barns, pens and chicken coops
