Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates Must hold a certificate of qualification as a Commercial and Residential Painter and Decorator issued by the Ontario Ministry of Skills Development obtained through Grade 12 education and the successful completion of the apprenticeship training programme
Experience: Candidates should have 3.5 years of experience which will include the 1 year as a Painter’s Improver to become proficient in all aspects of the work

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a valid class “G” Ontario Driver’s Licence
  • The candidates must take instruction and pass the written and driving tests set by the Operations Training Centre for the required operation of Commission vehicles; also for forklift operation
  • The candidates must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to prepare and apply paint, wall covering, or other finishes to a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces such as plaster, drywall, wood, or metal using a variety of techniques including scraping, sanding, brushing, and spraying
  • The candidates should be able to glaze windows and skylights and make engraved signs
  • The candidates should be able to set up and operate a computerized engraving machine and a bevelling machine in the manufacture of signs; they may install signs upon completion
  • The candidates should be able to drive Commission vehicle to transport crew and equipment to work locations; operate forklift for loading and unloading materials
  • The candidates should be able to be responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers and/or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer
