Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed high school
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to perform labour-intensive work, including heavy lifting and be prepared to work both inside and outside, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
  • The candidates should be willing to travel extensively throughout the region and be prepared to work significant, compensated overtims
  • The candidates should have the ability to make decisions, the ability to independently manage time and organize tasks and demonstrate professionalism

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in grounds maintenance and the tools and equipment used in such work
  • The candidates should have experience in road maintenance and the tools and equipment used in such work
  • The candidates should have a valid Class 5 driver’s license, a valid Flag person certificate and knowledge of grounds maintenance and tools and equipment used in such work
  • The candidates should have knowledge of road maintenance and the tools and equipment used in such work
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices
  • The candidates should have a valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 license, provide a recent and satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and possess a valid Flag person certificate

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to safely operate various tools and equipment used for highway maintenance, including the incidental operation of a motor vehicle
  • The candidates should be able to perform physically demanding, semi-skilled work involving heavy lifting and labor-intensive tasks, often in adverse weather conditions
  • The candidates should be able to carry out tasks such as pothole patching, ditching, road sign and guardrail repairs, and shoveling snow from doorways and walkways
  • The candidates should be able to assist with loading and unloading trucks, keeping job sites clean and free of debris, and performing maintenance on tools and equipment
  • The candidates should be able to dig fence post holes, act as a flag person to direct highway traffic when required, and perform other related duties
