Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience in snow and ice removal from roads, parking lots, sidewalks, building entrances, and other areas

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada, provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Records Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check
  • The candidates should be able and willing to work overtime, a Certification in pesticides and herbicides application or be able to obtain it within six months of employment commencement
  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including heavy lifting, pushing and pulling, crouching, and climbing, knowledge of safe work practices, procedures, and relevant safety policies
  • The candidates should demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and work independently and set priorities

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience operating equipment at commercial facilities, including grass mowers, tillers, gardening tools, snow removal equipment, and other related machinery
  • The candidates should have experience in grounds maintenance, including lawn care, tree care, and flower garden upkeep
  • The candidates should have strong organizational skills, effective verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with contractors, clients, and the general public
  • The candidates should have experience performing routine maintenance on equipment, including oil changes, spark plug replacements, checking fluid levels, and tire pressure monitoring

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform ground maintenance at the Legislative Grounds, including Memorial Park, Government House, and other owned properties in District One, under the general supervision of the Grounds Manager
  • The candidates should be able to receive direction and instruction from the Grounds Maintenance 2 and Grounds Maintenance 3 positions regarding grounds maintenance tasks
