Lower Mainland Society for Community Living based in Richmond, BC is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Handyman/woman. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience, training will be provided

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work effectively under pressure and should be capable of handling repetitive tasks
  • The candidates should be able to handle heavy loads and should be physically fit for demanding tasks
  • The candidates should be comfortable with bending, crouching, and kneeling

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate dependability, exhibit good judgment, and demonstrate reliability

Candidate Status:

  • Canadian citizens and permanent or temporary foreign workers of Canada are eligible for this position
  • International Candidates who don’t have a valid Canadian work permit also can apply

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to sweep, mop, scrub, and wax hallways, floors, and stairs, and operate industrial vacuum cleaners to remove scraps, dirt, heavy debris, and other refuse
  • The candidates should be able to empty trash cans and other waste containers, wash windows, interior walls, and ceilings, and make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems, and contact tradespersons for major repairs
  • The candidates should be able to contact contractors for repairs and maintenance of the establishment, perform minor repairs on appliances, and perform safety and security checks
  • The candidates should be able to move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, perform other routine maintenance jobs such as painting and drywall repair, and water and tend to plants, lawns, and/or gardens
  • The candidates should be able to clean and disinfect bathrooms and fixtures, work with minimal supervision, and clean snow and ice from walkways and parking areas
