Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to work irregular shifts, including evenings, midnights, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime
- The candidates should be able to frequently bend, stoop, squat, kneel, perform overhead work, and lift or carry up to 50 pounds (22 kg)
- The candidates should be comfortable working in a shop environment and be able to work both inside and outside the shop in all weather conditions and work at heights up to 60 feet
- The candidates should comply with safe work procedures and policies and ability to work autonomously, adapt to different situations, and manage stress
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have equivalent General Education Diploma (GED) and Diploma of Vocational Studies in Heavy Duty Mechanic
- The candidates should have experience in diesel mechanics, automotive, truck and coach, and hydraulics
- The candidates should possess a valid driver’s license, technical knowledge of diesel mechanics and good hand-eye coordination
- The candidates should possess their own tools sufficient to perform repairs and service on small equipment, with tools specific to the railway supplied by the company
- The candidates should have experience troubleshooting hydraulic and electronic systems and commercial transport or preferably heavy-duty working experience
- The candidates should have welding skills, post-secondary education and basic computer skills
- The candidates should demonstrate good teamwork skills and maintain positive interactions with others and good verbal, reading comprehension, and writing skills
- The candidates should be dedicated to getting the job done while meeting established standards of quality, safety, and client satisfaction
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to inspect, service, and maintain Intermodal cranes, terminal tractors, vehicles, and equipment in accordance with federal and company regulations, including changing oil, repairing, replacing, cleaning, and adjusting parts
- The candidates should be able to diagnose diesel or gas engine, electrical, hydraulic, and driveline malfunctions and make required repairs
- The candidates should be able to use electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication equipment, and other vehicle repair tools and equipment, and operate said tools and machinery safely and effectively
- The candidates should be able to use measuring devices and understand visual displays and repair various yard equipment machinery
- The candidates should be able to prepare inspection, maintenance, and work reports, and record details on prescribed forms in accordance with established procedures
