Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of minimum grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have minimum 2 years of experience as Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to sign off on equipment, train apprentice mechanics, and carry out the duties of the job efficiently
  • The candidates should have the ability to locate and diagnose mechanical problem and interpret diagrams and specifications
  • The candidates should be able to prioritize work based on operational demand and decision-making ability

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have broad knowledge of all equipment, from heavy to light, including mobile equipment and stationary units such as generator sets
  • The candidates should have considerable knowledge of standard repair methods, tools, equipment, and techniques
  • The candidates should have extensive knowledge and experience with motor graders, highway trucks, tractors, loaders, and crawler tractors with considerable experience on motor graders, highway trucks, tractors, loaders and crawler tractors
  • The candidates should possess teaching, supervisory, and communication skills to train apprentice mechanics
  • The candidates should have time management and organization skills to estimate resource requirements for repairs and complete the necessary shop repair orders and condition reports
  • The candidates should have verbal communication skills to relay information on equipment repair or service requirements to operators and Field Supervisors
  • The candidates should have written communication skills to complete estimates, shop repair orders, condition reports, and other paperwork associated with equipment service and repair
  • The candidates should have occasional contact with equipment operators to give maintenance instructions on newly repaired equipment
  • The candidates should hold Journeyperson or Red Seal Heavy Equipment Mechanic Certification (Ticket)
  • The candidates should have a Class 3 Driver’s license with air to operate equipment for test purposes or must be able to obtain this within 3 months of hire
