Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of hold certification as a Red Seal Journeyperson in Heavy Equipment Technician, Truck and Transport Mechanic, or Automotive Technician
Experience: Candidates should have experience in heavy equipment and trucks

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be physically capable of meeting the job’s demands, including crawling under vehicles, climbing ladders, bending, stretching, twisting in tight spaces, and standing or kneeling on cement floors
  • The candidates should be prepared to lift or move objects regularly between 25 to 50 lbs, and occasionally over 50 lbs
  • The candidates should recognize that the demands of the job may occasionally result in considerable fatigue, necessitating periods of rest
  • The candidates should have the ability to independently solve problems and effectively manage time and tasks

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in diagnosing and repairing light and heavy equipment and bring knowledge of diagnostics and repair for heavy equipment and heavy trucks
  • The candidates should demonstrate familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices
  • The candidates should possess strong relationship-building skills and hold a valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 license and provide a current Driver’s Abstract suitable to the employer
  • The candidates should ideally have experience with electric welding and acetylene cutting

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide skilled journeyperson-level work in diagnosing problems related to light and heavy equipment, ensuring efficient and effective repairs
  • The candidates should be able to conduct advanced work in various trades, including repairing, rebuilding, and fabricating parts and components of light and heavy vehicles, vehicle systems, and related equipment
  • The candidates should be able to repair and maintain diverse equipment, including trucks, loaders, snow plows, snow blowers, graders, and air-powered tools
  • The candidates should be able to adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations and safe work practices for both workplace and equipment operations
  • The candidates should be able to perform emergency road services and conduct field repairs to minimize operational downtime
  • The candidates should be able to oversee and mentor apprenticeship technicians, fostering skill development and adherence to industry standards
  • The candidates should be able to perform additional related duties as required, contributing to the team’s overall efficiency and service quality
