Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a High School
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should acknowledge the requirement for performing work outside
  • The candidates should acknowledge the requirement for exposure to physical dangers
  • The candidates should be willing to accept significant day travel
  • The candidates should be willing to accept occasional overtime
  • The candidates should be capable of making decisions

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a General Education Diploma (GED), with additional training in Law Enforcement or Regulatory Compliance
  • The candidates should have experience performing regulatory compliance monitoring activities, such as conducting inspections, investigations, patrols, regulatory compliance enforcement activities, such as issuing tickets, issuing orders, initiating prosecutions
  • The candidates should have completion of a diploma program in heavy equipment or vehicle repair and completion of formal training in inspections and/or investigations
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of the tools and methods of regulatory enforcement
  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge of heavy equipment and vehicle inspections
  • The candidates should exhibit conflict resolution skills and compliance monitoring skills
  • The candidates should have the ability to effectively exchange information
  • The candidates should possess relationship building skills and Professionalism
  • The candidates should submit a recent and satisfactory Driver’s Abstract with no suspensions in the last five years (all classes)
  • The candidates should provide a recent and satisfactory Criminal Records Check from local police and proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • The candidates should have achieve and maintain certification under the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. The cost for training and certification will be covered by the department

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure compliance of commercial vehicles, ambulances, school buses, and public passenger vehicles with legislation and standards governing maintenance, weights, dimensions, and operation on provincial roads
  • The candidates should be able to enforce the Highway Traffic Act, the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, and the Motor Carrier Act through on-road enforcement
  • The candidates should be able to operate fixed and portable weigh scales
  • The candidates should be able to conduct bus, ambulance, and commercial vehicle inspections
  • The candidates should be able to conduct inspections of Official Inspection Stations
  • The candidates should be able to conduct investigations on complaints within the related field
  • The candidates should be able to audit carriers to ensure compliance with vehicle and driver record-keeping requirements
  • The candidates should be able to issue required citations or Summary Offense Tickets and/or initiate prosecutions
