Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a minimum Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have 5 to 7 years of industrial, commercial experience with commercial mechanical equipment and systems

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience related to the listed duties and hold a Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development Certificate of Qualification as a 313A HVAC/R Mechanic
  • The candidates should hold, at minimum, a TSSA Gas Technician 2 (G.2) certificate, with Gas Technician 1 preferred. Candidates with a TSSA Gas Technician 2 certification who are willing and eligible to obtain their Gas Technician 1 certification within two (2) years
  • The candidates should have a Certificate of Authorization in Ozone Depletion Protection (ODP) or be eligible to obtain it within six (6) months of being posted in the position and demonstrate a high level of knowledge of refrigeration equipment, pumps, motors, HVAC equipment, and a variety of electrical components related to safety regulations
  • The candidates should have strong mathematical skills and a basic understanding of thermodynamic and electrical laws and basic computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and experience with MMS computer systems (Maximo)
  • The candidates should have a valid MTO ‘G’ class driver’s licence in good standing with a driver’s abstract acceptable to the City (maximum of 3 demerit points; maximum of 2 convictions within the previous 36 months; no driving-related criminal code convictions within the previous 36 months; and no ignition interlock restrictions)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform predictive, preventative, and reactive maintenance and repair on all building systems and mechanical operating equipment, including but not limited to HVAC systems, water treatment systems, air handling and exhaust systems, make-up air equipment, steam and hot water boilers, suspended unit heaters, circulation pumps, humidification systems, hot water recovery systems, chillers, cooling towers, and heat pumps
  • The candidates should be able to perform work in adherence to all mechanical, building, fuel, and other relevant codes, as well as local by-laws, as applicable
  • The candidates should be able to troubleshoot mechanical equipment and related systems to identify causes of failure and implement effective repair solutions in a timely and efficient manner
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with City staff and external partners to ensure safe and comfortable environments for staff and patrons in accordance with corporate health and safety policies, energy targets, and industry best practices
  • The candidates should be able to maintain logs on all preventative and reactive maintenance for corporate and work with the supervisor to procure parts or services in accordance with corporate purchasing by-laws
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the evaluation of products, equipment, and methods used in facility maintenance and operation in collaboration with the supervisor
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the implementation of energy management programs
  • The candidates should be able to recommend energy efficiencies, including operating strategy alternatives, product improvements, and scheduling enhancements
  • The candidates should be able to participate in an apprenticeship program as a mentor, as applicable and participate in the Corporate after-hours on-call program
