Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of completed 2 years of college in Fine Arts or Art History
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of experience practicing and teaching

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to work well with others and the ability to convey enthusiasm and creative energies about the related discipline
  • The candidates should be sensitive to the needs of various age groups and their learning abilities
  • The candidates should be well-organized, efficient, and productive and strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to work in a changing work environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have and Education in one or more of the following arts disciplines: theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, or multi-media arts, or have equivalent years of arts experience
  • The candidates should hold current Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED certificates,  completed AODA Customer Service or IASR Training and completed High Five training courses
  • The candidates should have completed health and safety training required by legislation and by the Corporation of Ottawa
  • The candidates should have previous experience working with all ages in an arts instructional setting
  • The candidates should have excellent knowledge of interpretive techniques, aesthetic and technical concepts, and handling of program materials in the discipline of instruction and a working knowledge of general registration and visitor procedures
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation and of corporate or departmental policies and procedures related to health and safety
  • The candidates should have strong oral and communication skills and experience in creative program development and demonstrate leadership, initiative, and creativity

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to build an inclusive, vibrant, and creative city with a unique identity and rich culture as part of the Community Recreation and Cultural Programs mandate
  • The candidates should be able to provide strategic vision and innovative leadership in managing customer-centric sports and recreation venues and programs
  • The candidates should be able to manage facilities and land for the delivery of indoor and outdoor recreation programs and services
  • The candidates should be able to foster an environment in which Ottawa’s arts, heritage, festival, and event sectors can evolve sustainably
  • The candidates should be able to teach and evaluate creative children’s introductory to intermediate instructional programs in theatre, dance, music, visual, literary, and multi-media arts
