Government of Nova Scotia’s Justice Department oversees legal matters, courts, and public safety initiatives in the province. It ensures access to justice, manages legal aid services, and promotes crime prevention. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French  Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Three years of undergraduate study
Experience: Candidates should have one year of experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines are critical attributes
  • The candidates should have exposure to a legal environment and adapt to rapidly evolving technologies and procedures

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have at least four years of related experience. A relevant combination of education and experience
  • The candidates should demonstrate experience and proficiency in a computerized environment, with strong keyboarding and data entry skills and strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
  • The candidates should have experience in handling cash and debit or credit card payment transactions and communication and customer service skills are essential for this role
  • The candidates should possess the ability to effectively deal with the public in a multifaceted and stressful environment, including confrontational and sensitive situations
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the justice system and government services for referral are advantageous
  • The candidates should have Bilingualism with proficiency in oral and written English and French
  • The candidates should have assessment of qualifications may include written examinations, standardized tests, oral presentations, interviews, and reference checks
  • The candidates should possess a two-year certificate or diploma along with two years of related experience.
  • The candidates should have a one-year certificate/diploma combined with three years of related experience

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to receive and respond to requests related to all court matters dealt with by various levels of court by telephone, fax, and email
  • The candidates should be able to balance monies received on a daily basis and maintain court filing systems
  • The candidates should be able to prepare daily cash reports and bank deposits in accordance with departmental account procedures
  • The candidates should be able to schedule court cases and monitor the court calendar of pending cases
  • The candidates should be able to provide a broad range of administrative support services and and receipt all monies paid to the court
  • The candidates should be able to provide legal information to the public regarding navigating the court system, court forms, and procedures
