Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Master’s Degree in biology, chemistry or environmental engineering or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have Minimum three years of related experience in a research laboratory

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience in the characterization of microplastics using microscopy and Raman spectrometry, Pyro GC/MS
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to prepare sampling equipment, schedule sampling events, and prepare samples for analyses. Additionally, the candidates should be capable of conducting analysis using microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and other appropriate analytical techniques as required in an evolving research atmosphere
  • The candidates should have a demonstrated ability to manipulate/tabulate data and prepare data for use in reports and publications
  • The candidates should possess intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • The candidates should possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required for effective collaboration and reporting
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work under pressure to meet multiple competing deadlines

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to act as the subject matter expert in the role of Lab Technician – Microplastics to support related research
  • The candidates should be able to work directly with other personnel in the Drinking Water Research Group (DWRG) to conduct microplastic-related sampling and analysis
  • The candidates should be able to, under the supervision of the Principle Investigator, prepare sampling equipment and schedule sampling events
  • The candidates should be able to prepare samples for analyses, conducting analysis using microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Pyro GC/MS, as well as other appropriate analytical techniques as required in evolving research
  • The candidates should be able to manipulate/tabulate data and prepare data for use in reports and publication
  • The candidates should be able to analyze lab reports and draft content for funding applications and research papers
  • The candidates should be able to oversee the day-to-day operational needs for one or more labs/workshops
  • The candidates should be able to perform lab experiments that require great precision and attention to many details
  • The candidates should be able to provide detailed explanations and demonstrate procedures to students and/or employees on lab techniques, experimental procedures, and protocols
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to research findings that are published in academic journals
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate routine maintenance of lab equipment
  • The candidates should be able to provide safety training and ensure compliance with lab safety procedures and standards
  • The candidates should be able to approve purchases within established limits
