Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should occasionally lift and unload objects weighing up to 30 lbs
- The candidates should regularly stand or sit for extended periods, requiring constant repetitive movement of upper extremities and walking to deliver reports or results
- The candidates should maintain visual and auditory concentration, with eye or hand coordination and higher than normal levels of attentiveness
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have graduated from a recognized (accredited) program with a degree in Medical Laboratory Science
- The candidates should hold current and continuing certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) as a general MLT or applicable subject MLT
- The candidates should maintain current and continuing registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals
- The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to rotate through Biochemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, and, if required, Microbiology, performing routine and complex laboratory testing
- The candidates should be able to perform phlebotomy when required and run Quality Control following established procedures, maintaining appropriate documentation
- The candidates should be able to perform routine preventative maintenance procedures on various laboratory instruments and keep appropriate documentation
- The candidates should be able to promote Patient Safety initiatives through the strict application of Eastern Health Policies and perform other related duties
