Government of Alberta’s Forestry and Parks Ministry manages the province’s forests and parks, promoting conservation and sustainable use. It provides wildfire prevention, biodiversity protection, and recreational opportunities in parks. The ministry supports forestry and tourism industries through resource development and environmental stewardship. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of some high school education
Experience: Candidates should have plus 6 months of experience janitorial, housekeeping, custodial, caretaking

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should demonstrate the ability to carry out physically demanding tasks and work in extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should have some high school education plus 2 years of experience related to janitorial or caretaking services or the supervision of staff
  • The candidate should meet minimum recruitment standards for education and experience required for appointment to the job classification
  • The candidate should possess a current WHMIS Certificate upon commencement and hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent), either unrestricted or GDL
  • The candidate should provide a 5-year Driver’s Abstract issued within 30 days of application submission, with no more than 8 demerits
  • The candidate should have Intermediate (Standard) First Aid and CPR Level C + AED certification for the Caretaking Supervisor (CT2) position upon commencement
  • The candidate should have knowledge of Dinosaur Provincial Park, local areas and services, other local Provincial Parks, and local/provincial tourism opportunities and services
  • The candidate should have experience using Microsoft Office, email, and internet applications, previous supervisory and administrative experience, experience in hospitality or janitorial cleaning
  • The candidate should have experience in commercial laundry and housekeeping, experience with small tools, household repairs, and maintenance tasks and experience using floor polishing, scrubbing, and buffing equipment
  • The candidate should possess strong customer service skills, a positive and energetic personality that enjoys engaging with visitors and experience operating off-highway vehicles and small equipment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform daily cleaning of all park buildings, facilities, and amenities, including disinfecting, sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing, washing, laundry, cobweb removal, and restocking necessities, with attention to vault toilets, shower and washroom facilities, and accommodation units
  • The candidates should be able to maintain cleanliness in the caretaking shop and report any equipment issues to the Caretaking Supervisor
  • The candidates should be able to set up and take down comfort camping facilities at the beginning and end of the season and assist in organizing storage for comfort camping equipment
  • The candidates should be able to assist with start and end-of-season cleaning of accommodation units, including mouseproofing and proper equipment storage and complete minor maintenance repairs and upkeep of facilities
  • The candidates should be able to clean comfort camping units at checkout and manage cleaning and sanitization tasks for the Conference Centre and accommodation facilities (Dinosaur Provincial Park only)
  • The candidates should be able to handle garbage and recycling collection and disposal and perform regular inspections and upkeep of assigned fleet vehicles
  • The candidates should be able to ensure workspaces comply with Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) protocols and complete all mandatory Government of Alberta online training courses
  • The candidates should be able to fulfill all SiteDocs training requirements and conduct daily SiteDocs vehicle inspections and complete the Performance Agreement at the beginning, mid-season, and end of the season
