Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have three years experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently and capable of working outdoors in inclement weather conditions
  • The candidates should have proven ability to effectively and safely use and operate small hand tools, power tools, ladders, and elevated platforms
  • The candidates should demonstrate the physical and technical ability to perform required duties

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess technical training that may be substituted for experience and demonstrate mechanical aptitude and experience performing a variety of building maintenance tasks
  • The candidates should have knowledge and experience in building maintenance and repair practices, with the ability to become familiar with building operations, floor plans, equipment, and related health, safety, and cleanliness standards
  • The candidates should be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations applicable to this work
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively in English (oral and written) and use tools such as cell phones, pagers, and radios with tact, courtesy, and patience while dealing with clients and staff computer skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform maintenance duties to ensure the building, fixtures, and equipment are maintained to standard and are in good working order, including repairing or replacing and adjusting equipment, fixtures, furniture, and appliances; minor carpentry or woodwork hardware replacement and repair; light replacement; and more
  • The candidates should be able to conduct general maintenance of lights, equipment, and building fixtures, including general building maintenance tasks such as appliance repair, flooring or ceiling tile repair, and minor residential painting
  • The candidates should be able to maintain internal signage and inspect, maintain, and repair all Vingcard hardware troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and complete work orders and special projects
  • The candidates should be able to perform visual inspections of the building, equipment, fixtures, and appliances, reporting any issues as needed, and maintain all accessibility operators in good working order
  • The candidates should be able to clear entrance ways of snow and ice, lay salt, perform preventative maintenance, check fire and safety equipment, and report items requiring specialized repair
  • The candidates should be able to observe, correct, and/or report any health and safety concerns, follow established protocol during fire alarms, and maintain accurate and timely records of work completed
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with supervisors, administrative staff, and students to ensure work orders and maintenance are executed to local and University Building Standards and Health and Safety standards in a timely and safe manner
  • The candidates should be able to respond to requests from building occupants and contractors, provide supplies or services related to building maintenance, and properly store and maintain an inventory of materials and equipment
