Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience in all types of arboricultural work, including pruning, removal, stumping, and planting

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing the required duties and work in all weather conditions
  • The candidates should be available to work shifts, weekends, overtime, and on-call duty and be willing to update skills to meet trade standards and operational requirements

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in the care and safe operation of chainsaws, brush chippers, and stumping machines
  • The candidates should possess an Infrastructure Health and Safety Association Certificate for Electrical Safety awareness or an equivalent certification
  • The candidates should possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “D” Driver’s License with “Z” endorsement and meet the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements
  • The candidates should possess or be able to obtain Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • The candidates should have a working understanding of tree morphology, physiology, and dendrology for tree species common to the Toronto area
  • The candidates should be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Arborist Safe Work Practices, and other applicable legislation and industry standards and communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform work involved in the care and culture of trees, including planting, transplanting, and pruning by both mechanical and hand methods
  • The candidates should be able to assist in tree removal, ensuring safety protocols are followed, though they are not required to work at heights
  • The candidates should be able to assist those working at heights by handling ropes or acting as a spotter, including tasks performed near energized conductors
  • The candidates should be able to drive, operate, and inspect various equipment, ensuring proper maintenance of tools such as dump trucks, aerial towers, cranes, hydro vacuum excavators, chippers, stumpers, tractors, loaders, chainsaws, concrete saws, sawzalls, motorized pole saws, and other related equipment
  • The candidates should be able to handle, load, chip brush, and wood as part of tree maintenance duties and perform tree pit and container maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to update their skills as required to meet trade standards and operational requirements
