Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Bachelor’s degree
Experience: Candidates should have ten years’ experience in the media industry, including at least seven in a leadership role

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to travel occasionally
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple changing priorities

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have significant team management experience, including vision, planning, organizing and directing
  • The candidates should possess superior editorial judgment and a thorough understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices
  • The candidates should demonstrate strong leadership skills to engage and inspire creative teams
  • The candidates should have a proven track record in developing employees and providing constructive feedback
  • The candidates should have knowledge of effective management and change-management techniques
  • The candidates should maintain a positive attitude and exhibit solutions-focused leadership
  • The candidates should have highly developed interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to manage multiple teams of producers, hosts, and sound designers in development work, ongoing podcast production, and short-run series
  • The candidate should be able to participate in creating the strategic direction for CBC News Podcasts and be comfortable interpreting metrics and trends to pivot strategy and teams and thrive in a constantly changing environment and inspire confidence in others to do the same
  • The candidate should be able to demonstrate a proven track record of inspiring and developing staff with empathy, prioritizing inclusivity and diversity and act as a strong journalistic leader who understands the JSP and is comfortable overseeing original and investigative work
  • The candidate should be able to review audience metrics and ensure program or podcast teams consider data in their editorial decision-making and provide strategic and data-driven leadership and to excel at collaborating and managing resources between many different departments
  • The candidate should be able to oversee pitch processes and ensure they adhere to clear criteria and oversee both development staff and audience-building staff
  • The candidate should be able to uphold CBC’s journalistic standards and practices and manage a production budget, freelance contracts and staff secondments
  • The candidate should be able to create a positive and inclusive work culture through feedback, coaching, and development of staff and answer complaints to the CBC Ombudsperson and monitor and respond to audience feedback
  • The candidate should be able to discover, create, and implement mentorship and training programs for teams and and support the training and development of staff, in both short-term and long-term roles
  • The candidate should be able to work with Managing Editors and other colleagues across the country to achieve strategic goals and work closely with the legal team
  • The candidate should be able to ensure that all CBC policies and procedures are followed
