Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have 5 years of experience repairing heavy trucks and buses

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work shifts and variable hours, handle the physical demands of the job
  • The candidates should be able to work outside and in all weather conditions, possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on customer service
  • The candidates should have strong time management and organizational skills, work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • The candidates should be able to wear required personal protective equipment and use appropriate safety equipment to complete job tasks in a safe manner

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have or equivalent secondary education as established by the Ontario Ministry of Education
  • The candidates should have experience with Transit buses and highway coaches,  experience working with Detroit Diesel and Allison Transmission power packages, DDEC, ATEC, Cummins and Voith electronic controls, and Cummins and Voith power packages
  • The candidates should hold a valid Ontario Truck & Coach Certificate 310T in good standing
  • The candidates should have a current class CZ license in good standing, or the ability to upgrade an existing class G driver’s license to a class CZ license
  • The candidates should have a current forklift operator’s certificate, or the ability to obtain one, own a full complement of hand tools

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to repair all transit-owned vehicles, including diesel and gasoline engines, brakes, transmissions, tires, and perform minor body and glass repairs
  • The candidates should be able to operate computerized diagnostic equipment, including printers, and conduct road tests to determine vehicle repairs, transport vehicles to/from outside repair facilities, streets, and roads
  • The candidates should be able to perform daily running repairs and scheduled maintenance inspections, perform service calls, repairing vehicles on-site as needed and transporting them to the garage
  • The candidates should be able to operate cutting and welding equipment, be familiar with air systems and hydraulic systems, including transmissions, fluid fans, and related components
  • The candidates should be able to diagnose and repair hydraulic equipment on transit vehicles, checking, repairing, and replacing pumps, valves, oil, and related parts
  • The candidates should be able to clean vehicle bodies and engines to facilitate repairs,  install decals, mats, safety, and first aid equipment
  • The candidates should be able to prepare lists of required repair parts for the foreman,  modify or fabricate equipment according to user department specifications
  • The candidates should be able to complete paperwork, including individual time sheets, records of work performed, and inspection certificates
  • The candidates should be able to maintain up-to-date knowledge of equipment and procedures, attending training sessions, reviewing manuals, perform preventative maintenance and seasonal overhauls on all vehicles
  • The candidates should be able to perform semi-annual and annual inspections according to the Ministry of Transportation Motor Vehicle Inspection Station Guidelines, perform other similar and related duties as assigned to the position
