Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as a High School graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates must have the ability to work with a minimum of supervision and to use sound judgment in making decisions
  • The candidates must be physically capable of performing the routine manual labor components of the position, which may include but are not limited to: heavy lifting (up to 100lbs), maneuvering within or around large equipment, exposure to dust, noise, extreme weather conditions, diesel exhaust fumes, and chemical agents used in the mechanical field
  • The successful candidate(s) must have a complete set of Mechanic’s hand tools on their first day of employment
  • The candidates must successfully complete required training in the use of specialized equipment, such as scissors lifts, and forklifts within a specified time frame

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a Truck and Transport Journeyman Red Seal Certificate and demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • The candidates should have acceptable safety and job performance relevant to this position and should possess effective interpersonal skills and adhere to the City of Winnipeg Respectful Workplace Standards
  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid
  • The candidates must possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License and be able to obtain a Manitoba Class 2 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement within two months of employment (in-house training)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to diagnose, overhaul, and repair all aspects of Winnipeg Transit bus fleet vehicles, support vehicles, and equipment
  • The candidates should be able to diagnose and repair diesel and/or other internal combustion engines, transmissions and/or hydraulic equipment, and all related electrical and auxiliary equipment
  • The candidates should be able to develop a working knowledge of the technical and administrative procedures necessary to perform the duties of a Journeyman Truck and Transport Mechanic
  • The candidates should be able to train and direct Truck and Transport Mechanic Apprentices
