Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should hold a current RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
Experience: Candidates should have three to five years of experience in acute mental health

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate strong analysis and problem-assessment skills and be innovative and willing to learn
  • The candidates should demonstrate a commitment to customer service and teamwork and demonstrate the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workload
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse multidisciplinary health care team

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess CNA certification in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the College of Nurses Professional Standards of Practice and Standards of Psychiatric or Mental Health Clinical Nursing Practice
  • The candidates should have current experience in medicine and geriatric fields and a strong working knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • The candidates should hold current BCLS certification and hold a Crisis Prevention Institute Certificate or equivalent
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to coordinate patient care, involving the client, family, other disciplines, and collateral agencies
  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge of the psychiatric needs of medically ill patients and demonstrate skills in patient assessment, particularly with a delirium and dementia diagnosis
  • The candidates should demonstrate risk assessment skills, including for suicide and self-harm risks and demonstrate a patient-focused attitude toward care
  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge and understanding of DSM V classification, psychopharmacology, psychiatric or mental health legislation, and possess a strong working knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • The candidates should demonstrate excellence in both written and verbal communication and demonstrate experience in teaching and educating patients or colleagues and demonstrate individual leadership skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to fulfill the role of the Mental Health Consultation Liaison Nurse Clinician, which is consultative in nature
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with and support staff in non-mental health areas of the hospital
  • The candidates should be able to assist in the care and treatment of patients with behavioral and psychiatric or mental health concerns
