Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Completion of an Undergraduate degree and a two-year Library Technician diploma
Experience: Candidates should have three years of relevant Library experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate sound technical proficiency and competencies in bibliographic description principles and concepts, cataloguing standards, and record encoding
  • The candidates should have familiarity with library terminology and tools and possess the ability to understand LC and CODOC classification schedules and have experience with metadata refinement tools like MarcEdit, OpenRefine, and Python
  • The candidates should demonstrate interpretation skills for MARC21 and RDA/AACR2 standards and continuously develop practical skills in linked data concepts and batch metadata processes
  • The candidates should exhibit proficiency in the Library Services Platform and be familiar with analytics tools and query languages
  • The candidates should demonstrate competence in remediation and digital editing software and have an understanding of current accessibility requirements for resource access
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of administrative and office software packages and demonstrate awareness of library industry standards and their development
  • The candidates should be familiar with OCUL consortium cataloguing policies and procedures and have an understanding of EDIA requirements for resource description and equitable information access
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of physical maintenance of library materials, formats, and their characteristics. They should also have knowledge of cataloguing and metadata standards including MARC21, RDA/AACR2, and Library of Congress Classification

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide resource description and metadata analysis for the Library’s collections
  • The candidates should be able to create and remediate bibliographic, holdings, and authority records in the Library Services Platform (LSP) using batch processes and metadata refinement tools
  • The candidates should be able to support metadata creation and remediation for the Institutional Repository and other digital platforms
  • The candidates should be able to ensure accessibility and EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) standards are met for all metadata formats
  • The candidates should be able to provide support for linked data initiatives within the department and provide support for electronic resources as required
  • The candidates should be able to assist with metadata and analytics requirements for the OCUL Collaborative Futures consortium
