Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English or French Language
Education: Candidates should be eligible for current registration/certification with RNANT/NU
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of working in a clinical environment, with the understanding that there will be physical demands on the incumbent, including the provision of assistance in the transferring of patients, performing other heavy lifting, and conducting patient assessments
  • The candidates should be prepared for moderate exposure to potential communicable diseases, body fluids, human waste, and hazardous materials (such as sharps, toxic wastes, and cleaning solutions)
  • The candidates should be aware that a significant part of their day is spent providing direct patient care, where the incumbent is required to use the combined senses of touch, sight, smell, and hearing during the assessment and provision of care

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should apply advanced nursing processes to address clients’ physical, emotional, psycho-social, spiritual, and daily living needs
  • The candidates should be capable of educating clients and their families on appropriate self-care, including providing emergency care within the scope of practice
  • The candidates should possess the ability to identify and network with health and community resources, demonstrating knowledge of best practices in primary health care delivery
  • The candidates should conceptually understand the model of integrated health care service delivery and apply nurse practitioner competencies in multidisciplinary practice settings
  • The candidates should exhibit sensitivity to cultural and socio-economic issues in the NWT, adhering to confidentiality standards and addressing situations of extreme stress diplomatically
  • The candidates should demonstrate problem-solving skills, computer literacy, and effective written and oral communication, with the ability to seek out and match client needs to available services

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide advanced health assessment, nursing care, and services to clients on a routine and emergency basis (if appropriate) to promote a healthy lifestyle, prevent and/or reduce the incidence of disease, disability, and death, support rehabilitation, and restore health. Additionally, they should support clients to die comfortably and with dignity
  • The candidates should be able to develop, facilitate, implement, and modify client and family education/teaching based on the needs of the client
  • The candidates should be able to conduct health surveillance and preventative activities that may improve the health of the population, in collaboration with clients, health care practitioners, and agencies
  • The candidates should be able to provide expert and specialized knowledge in primary health care related to nursing in the NWT and provide direction and leadership for enhancing the NWT integrated service delivery model
