Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner program
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years clinical experience in the last seven in primary health

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of constantly moving, lifting, or operating equipment/machinery up to 10 lbs., and regularly be required to lift/move equipment, books, supplies
  • The candidates should occasionally have to reposition a patient over 50 lbs
  • The candidates should regularly sit to conduct patient histories, perform work on the computer, and when assessing patients, they should regularly stand or walk
  • The candidates should regularly use fine finger/precision work and hand tools (such as medical instruments, computer mouse, stethoscope, dopplers) requiring accurate control and steadiness
  • The candidates should exhibit visual concentration when performing physical assessment and procedures, completing charts/reports, observing patients, reading equipment/monitors, and completing work-related correspondence on the computer
  • The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance and attendance

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience working with a diverse patient population, including refugees and newcomers to Canada
  • The candidates should possess current BCLS Certification and have demonstrated skills in computer and database management
  • The candidates should have strong abilities in the areas of collaboration, clinical reasoning, professional development, interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management, and teamwork
  • The candidates should demonstrate progressive clinical leadership skills and possess strong communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and teaching skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to function autonomously in an advanced practice role and support and participate in research to improve practice and client outcomes
  • The candidates should hold a valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver’s License, and the use of a private vehicle should be a condition of employment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide comprehensive care using principles of primary health care within a health promotion, population health, and self-help framework
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team in the provision of comprehensive primary health care services
  • The candidates should be able to provide leadership and education to other healthcare professionals and students
  • The candidates should be able to act as a resource leader for their area of practice and participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and protocols
  • The candidates should be able to provide clinical care to vulnerable populations with a focus on new arrivals to Canada and their families in the greater metro area of St. John’s
  • The candidates should be able to work out of urban EH clinic(s) with an ability to complete home visits as necessary
