Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of current BLS certification
Experience: Candidates should have one year of experience within the last three years as a nurse practitioner in long-term care, personal care, acute care, and community health

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to work well independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team environment and demonstrate initiative and be willing to work a flexible work schedule

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have graduated from a Nurse Practitioner program approved by Central Health and current registration with ARNNL as a Nurse Practitioner (Family All Ages or Primary Health Care) or be eligible to register as a Nurse Practitioner
  • The candidates should demonstrate knowledge of community, personal care, and long-term care health services
  • The candidates should hold CNA certification in Gerontology or be willing to complete it within a reasonable time frame
  • The candidates should have completed the Gentle Persuasive Approach training or be willing to complete it within a reasonable time frame
  • The candidates should demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities, problem-solving skills, and strong oral and written communication skills
  • The candidates should consistently demonstrate Central Health’s corporate values: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE)
  • The candidates should have a valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class V Driver’s License and a satisfactory record of work performance and attendance for this position
  • The candidates should provide a satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority and demonstrate skill in using health care-based computer systems (CRMS and Meditech)

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide advanced nursing care, including promoting health and well-being, preventing illness and injury, and providing supportive care, including palliation, for residents in long-term care, personal care homes, patients in acute care, and clients in the community setting
  • The candidates should be able to work in partnership with multidisciplinary teams in long-term care, personal care, acute care, and community settings to develop, lead, implement, and evaluate best practices, policies, and standards of care and clinical services
  • The candidates should be able to assume a leadership role in influencing clinical practice and health outcomes while collaborating with physicians, the broader healthcare team, and community partners regarding complex and challenging resident or client care
  • The candidates should be able to ensure person- and family-centered care that wraps available resources around the individual wherever they reside
  • The candidates should be able to establish a preventative, integrated, person- and family-centered approach driven by individualized assessment of needs and individual choice to promote aging in place
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person- and family-centered care
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements
