Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a degree in Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology and Physics
Experience: Candidates should have 5 years of work experience in Occupational Hygiene

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have hands-on expertise in field skills such as sampling and assessments
  • The candidates should be eligible to obtain a Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) designation through the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists (CRBOH), OR Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation through the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (BGC)
  • The candidates should possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, or a Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, with no current suspensions or charges pending, and must be able to use a personal vehicle for business use
  • The candidates should have a Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation accredited by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP)
  • The candidates should have excellent communication skills and the ability to analyze variables, interpret results, and develop solutions and undergo a security clearance and provide proof of qualifications
  • The candidates should conduct site visits with regular exposure to hazards such as noise, dust, and adverse weather conditions. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required during site visits
  • The candidates should pass a pre-employment drug test, which assesses for the use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety-sensitive position for up to twelve months

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to review and interpret federal and provincial occupational and public health legislation as it applies to The City’s operations, procedures, and policies
  • The candidates should be able to provide technical expertise and advice for City safety programs, including Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Respiratory Hazards Management, Noise Management, and Respiratory and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • The candidates should be able to evaluate, assess, coordinate, and implement recommendations to reduce or eliminate exposure to occupational and public health hazards for the corporation
  • The candidates should be able to ensure compliance with corporate occupational programs, such as audiometric testing, respirator use, pesticide application, and accidental exposure assessment
  • The candidates should be able to identify, evaluate, and implement controls to reduce or eliminate workplace hazards, and suggest changes to work environments and processes to reduce the risk of injury or illness from occupational hazards
  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement an industrial hygiene matrix for divisions, projects, and operations
