Requirements:

Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to exercise some independence of judgment and action in routine or simple aspects of the work
- The candidates should be able to courteously answer questions and interact with the public and use a variety of tools and equipment
- The candidates should have sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be have demonstrate knowledge of safe work procedures, apply sound knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in the work
- The candidates should have some knowledge of construction and landscape maintenance tasks and some knowledge of the functions of the branch concerned and the established practices in carrying out the work
- The candidates should have skill in using a variety of tools related to landscape maintenance and possess a current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and maintain a satisfactory National Safety Code driving record
- The candidates should have a five-year driving record with no more than nine accumulated points, not exceeding three points per single year
- The candidates should have a three-year record with no more than one preventable work-related driving or equipment operating accident in any single year
- The candidates should provide the following records to meet the City’s driving requirements, A three-year ICBC Commercial Driver’s Abstract (N Print) dated within 30 days of the posting, A three-year ICBC Driver’s Claims History dated within 30 days of the posting and out-of-province or out-of-country driving abstract and claims history
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to demonstrate sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform heavy physical labor, lift, push, and pull heavy objects safely and efficiently
- The candidates should be able to walk or stand continuously with frequent bending or twisting
- The candidates should be able to work close to moving machinery and in high-traffic areas while maintaining safety and work on ladders and perform tasks at various heights
- The candidates should be able to work outside in all weather conditions and on uneven surfaces and use a variety of tools and equipment necessary for park operations
- The candidates should be able to perform tasks such as digging, planting, weeding, raking, and edging flowerbeds and sweep and clear pathways to maintain cleanliness and accessibility
- The candidates should be able to cut grass, operate mowers, and use line trimmers and general turf care equipment
- The candidates should be able to collect and remove litter to maintain a clean and safe environment and perform other related duties
