Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of up to completion of high school
Experience: Candidates should have some work experience in basic Laboure

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of safe work procedures, sound knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in the work
  • The candidates should have some knowledge of construction and landscape maintenance tasks, exercise some independence of judgment and action in the routine or simple aspects of the work
  • The candidates should courteously answer questions and deal with the public, use a variety of tools and equipment
  • The candidates should have skill in the use of a variety of tools related to landscape maintenance, possess sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual outdoor work in all weather

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have horticulture training or experience, possess a Class 5 or higher Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia
  • The candidates should have some knowledge of the functions of the branch concerned and the established practices in carrying out the work
  • The candidates should have a current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and a satisfactory National Safety Code driving record
  • The candidates should have no more than 9 points accumulated over 5 years, and not in excess of 3 points per single year
  • The candidates should have no more than 1 preventable work-related driving or equipment operating accident in any single year over 3 years
  • The candidates should expect their application to be reviewed in more detail if they do not demonstrate a satisfactory driving record

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform heavy physical labor
  • The candidates should be able to lift, push, and pull heavy objects aand walk or stand continuously, with frequent bending or twisting movements
  • The candidates should be able to work near moving machinery and in high-traffic areas safely, work on ladders and at heights
  • The candidates should be able to work outside in all weather conditions and on uneven surfaces, use a variety of tools and equipment effectively and safely
  • The candidates should be able to perform park operations tasks such as digging, planting, weeding, raking, and edging flowerbeds, sweep and clear pathways, cut grass, and operate mowers and line trimmers
  • The candidates should be able to maintain general turf care equipment and perform tasks like collecting and removing litter, complete additional duties as required for park maintenance
