Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have laboring and semi-skilled experience with small hand tools, driving experience and knowledge of the City of Vancouver roadways
- The candidates should have experience operating small pick-up trucks, mid to large size trucks, sweepers, flushers, garbage trucks, and/or experience operating a Class 3 vehicle or higher
- The candidates should hold a current and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or higher with Air Brakes and a satisfactory National Safety Code driving record
- The candidates should be able to provide a Commercial Driving Records Abstract (N Print) for the past 5 years (no more than 14 days prior to this posting)
- The candidates should be able to provide their Insurance and Claims History for the past 5 years (no more than 14 days prior to this posting)
- The candidates should request an out-of-province/country abstract and claims history if they have less than five years driving experience in BC
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform manual cleaning tasks using a rake, shovel, and leaf blower on assigned maps/beats, tip/empty litter receptacles on streets and in parks on assigned maps/beats
- The candidates should be able to clear lanes of abandoned debris on assigned maps/beats to maintain cleanliness and safety, assist in special events preparation and clean-up across the city
- The candidates should be able to drive and dump waste material at the Vancouver Transfer Station or designated compactors/dump zones as needed or directed, respond to weather-specific events, such as flooding, snow, ice, and storms, to mitigate risks to public safety
- The candidates should be able to document completed work, including pre/post-trip vehicle inspections, in compliance with Branch policies, accurately record the results of investigations or work completed in response to Service Requests from 311
- The candidates should be able to maintain the cleanliness of equipment and vehicles to ensure operational efficiency and safety, properly use and store equipment and tools in accordance with safety standards
- The candidates should be able to operate rear-load Garbage Trucks, Sweepers, and Flusher equipment (if qualified and trained) at the higher rate specific to the job classification
- The candidates should be able to perform other duties as assigned to support the department’s operations and service delivery
