Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of formal education in landscaping and horticulture
Experience: Candidates should have previous experience in landscaping, horticulture, or other outdoor maintenance

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to perform moderate lifting of equipment and objects (up to 55 lbs) and perform physical work in a variety of conditions, from warm and humid to freezing temperatures
  • The candidates should be available to work full-time (40 hours per week), including nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays during the employment period and be prepared to report to work in all weather conditions (outdoor work environment)
  • The candidates should be flexible to work in a variety of locations, with the potential to be relocated to another location at any time throughout the work term based on operational and wear Green Patch CSA approved safety boots (6”-8” to cover ankle), made of full suede or leather material, in accordance with the City’s health and safety policies and training
  • The candidates should be able to meet the physical demands of the role, including moderate lifting of equipment and objects up to 55 lbs, exposure to vibration, unpleasant smells, fumes, dust, flying particles, outdoor allergens, animal feces, and various insects, and performing tasks such as bending, climbing, walking, pushing, sitting, standing, and repetitive motion and work in an outdoor setting, including heavy lifting up to 55 lbs

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should hold an Ontario Driver’s License, Class G2 or higher, with a driving record that is acceptable to the City
  • The candidates should have Emergency First Aid Certification and be proficient with MS Office, Outlook, and have capable computer skills
  • The candidates should understand applicable Health and Safety regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to carry out a variety of maintenance functions, including turf maintenance, planting, weeding, and the upkeep of horticultural installations and displays
  • The candidates should be able to perform litter picking, garbage/recycling collection, and disposal in designated areas and assist with the maintenance of sports fields and facilities, ensuring they are in optimal condition
  • The candidates should be able to maintain trails and cemetery grounds, ensuring they meet cleanliness and safety standards
  • The candidates should be able to assist with inspections, cleaning, and repairs of park amenities to ensure functionality and appearance
  • The candidates should be able to provide logistical support for community events, including deliveries and the set-up and take-down of picnic tables and other equipment
  • The candidates should be able to operate vehicles and attachments, small equipment, and hand tools as part of regular maintenance tasks
  • The candidates should be able to deliver routine and specialized maintenance for parks and public spaces and enter daily data into the INFOR Mobile system to capture labour and equipment hours and material usage accurately
  • The candidates should be able to provide leadership and functional guidance as required, with the ability to work independently
  • The candidates should be able to clean and maintain vehicles and equipment according to required maintenance schedules and servicing milestones
  • The candidates should be able to identify hazards or mechanical issues that impact operations and arrange for appropriate repairs and servicing
