Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of High School Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have previous patrolling experience at Panorama Mountain Village and previous medical training

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to ski in difficult conditions, work in cold and often inclement conditions, at high elevations, and carry and transport unwieldy materials such as tower pads and medical equipment
  • The candidates should be able to hear and speak clearly to hear beacon signals and skiers requesting assistance, and for effective communication using radios and telephones

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have an 80+ hour Outdoor Emergency Care Certificate (OEC) preferred or 80+ hour OFA Level 3 or Wilderness First Aid certificate and a high level of computer literacy
  • The candidates should have previous experience performing the role of Dispatch within the ski patrol or mountain safety industry, including call taking and coordination of incident command and response

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to document all tasks pertaining to the position in a professional manner using Edge Auditor Dispatch software and other relevant software
  • The candidates should be able to take calls from guests, staff, and other agencies and communicate effectively with all mountain safety agencies, EMS, RCMP, and SAR
  • The candidates should be able to make efficient decisions on resource management, think outside the box to handle unpredictable incidents, and be a knowledgeable resource for Patrol or Trail Crew or Avalanche and all on-mountain staff
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that Emergency Response Plans and Procedures are up-to-date and utilized appropriately
  • The candidates should be able to assist with updating all SOPs, Safe Work Practices, and other operating protocols and assist with Patrol Clinic and walk-in patients
  • The candidates should be able to provide remote advice and guidance to on-scene patrollers in administering medical procedures and protocols
  • The candidates should be able to assist with projects within Mountain Operations, including updating manuals, organizing computer files, risk management material, accident investigations, documentation, inventories, tracking, sourcing resources, and training material preparation
  • The candidates should be able to complete weekly checks and inventories of medical, rescue, and other equipment and resources and provide accurate information about resort operations to other staff and guests
  • The candidates should be able to input weather observations as per guidance from the Avalanche Risk Management Program and attend all Patrol training and stay up-to-date with medical and rescue skills
  • The candidates should be able to multi-task and coordinate multiple incident responses simultaneously in a calm and efficient manner and perform any other duties without disrupting the performance of primary dispatch duties
