Requirements:

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assist the Pharmacist in the technical aspects of prescription filling and administrative duties to enhance the Pharmacist’s ability to provide patient care
  • The candidates should be able to participate in all aspects of Pharmacy Operations required of a team player
  • The candidates should be able to play a key role in delivering superior customer service
  • The candidates should be able to receive prescriptions from patients, ensuring compliance with provincial legal/regulatory conditions, and assess the prescription for completeness, including Name, Address, DOB, Allergies, 3rd Party Information, Any Special Requests, Prescriber, Generic/Brand, and prioritizing prescriptions according to 21st Century Guidelines
  • The candidates should be able to perform computer functions as directed by the Pharmacist, including Data Entry, Price Check, Patient Information Entry/Update, competent interpretation and processing of written prescriptions, including Latin abbreviations, drug name recognition, dosage calculations, Refills, Report Generation, and Patient Profile checks
  • The candidates should be able to fill prescriptions under the Pharmacist’s supervision, select appropriate products, perform accuracy checks including 7 point, Visual and DIN checks, count/measure & prepare products, label and organize for pharmacist checking, gain necessary approvals for verbal refills where authorized, employ ‘STOP’ forms if applicable, and facilitate all aspects of Cognitive Services
  • The candidates should be able to maintain Inventory Control, assist the Pharmacist in maintaining appropriate stock levels of drugs and supplies, check for and pull expired medications at least monthly, clean up Will Call Bin of ‘stale’ prescriptions regularly, write up returns, order drugs and supplies, use preferred wholesaler for Pharmacy purchases as much as possible, operate the Telxon gun, check off, price and put away pharmacy orders, zone the pharmacy shelves, ‘X- ing’ bottles when opened, demonstrate interchangeable drug knowledge, and appropriately maintain/ select key brands/preferred generics
  • The candidates should be able to maintain General Housekeeping, stock Prescription filling supplies such as Vials, labels, bags, keep the dispensary clean, organized and neat, maintain a clean/safe work environment as part of the team approach (i.e. dishes, garbage), and maintain & clean packaging & dispensing equipment, computer, fax machine, etc.
  • The candidates should be able to handle Clerical Organization tasks, including filing prescriptions, invoices, reports, correspondence and memos, and completing any administrative support functions assigned (i.e. journals, accounts receivable, Aged Trial Balance)
  • The candidates should be able to assist with OTC Operations, including ordering, stocking, and cashier duties as assigned by OTC Manager and/or Pharmacist
