- The candidates should be able to maintain inventory control by assisting the Pharmacist in managing appropriate stock levels of drugs and supplies, checking and pulling expired medications monthly, cleaning the Will Call Bin of stale prescriptions regularly, writing up returns, ordering drugs and supplies, using preferred wholesalers like Kohl and Frisch, operating the Telxon gun, checking off and pricing pharmacy orders, zoning pharmacy shelves, and managing opened bottles and interchangeable drug knowledge
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to receive prescriptions from patients, following provincial legal/regulatory conditions, and assess the prescription for completeness, including verifying the name, address, date of birth, allergies, third-party information, special requests, prescriber details, and whether the prescription is for a generic or brand-name medication, while prioritizing prescriptions with 21st-century guidelines
- The candidates should be able to perform computer functions as directed by the Pharmacist, such as data entry, price checks, patient information entry/update, interpreting and processing written prescriptions (including Latin abbreviations, drug name recognition, and dosage calculations), managing refills, generating reports, and performing patient profile checks
- The candidates should be able to fill prescriptions under the Pharmacist’s supervision by selecting appropriate products, performing accuracy programs (including 7-point, visual, and DIN checks), counting, measuring, and preparing products, labeling and organizing for pharmacist checks, obtaining necessary approvals for verbal refills, using ‘STOP’ forms when applicable, and facilitating all aspects of Cognitive Services
- The candidates should be able to ensure general housekeeping, including stocking prescription filling supplies (vials, labels, bags), maintaining a clean and organized dispensary, keeping the work environment safe and neat, and maintaining and cleaning packaging and dispensing equipment, computers and fax machines
- The candidates should be able to perform clerical organization by filing prescriptions, invoices, reports, correspondence, and memos, and completing any assigned administrative support tasks such as handling journals, accounts receivable, and the Aged Trial Balance
- The candidates should be able to assist with OTC operations, including ordering, stocking, and cashier duties as assigned by the OTC Manager and Pharmacist
