Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed 2-year diploma in Planning, Architectural Technology and Civil Engineering Technology
Experience: Candidates should have at least 1 year of customer service experience involving direct public contact

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with team members and internal or external customers
  • The candidates should excel in service-oriented roles, demonstrating tact and courtesy in interactions with the public
  • The candidates should be prepared to work primarily in a front-counter service environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess at least one of the following educational qualifications and experiences, a completed 1-year certificate in Applied Land Use Planning, Construction, Business, or a related field, with at least 3 years of relevant experience in development, building and safety, or a closely related customer service environment, including 1 year as a Planning Services Technician 1 or equivalent
  • The candidates should completed a degree in Planning, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Engineering Design and Drafting, or a related field, with at least 1 year of customer service experience involving direct public contact
  • The candidates should have completed intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • The candidates should possess working knowledge and understanding of land use bylaws and business licensing
  • The candidates should have experience reading blueprints, and completion of a blueprint reading course

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform preliminary reviews of development and building permits by assessing blueprints and documents submitted both in person and online
  • The candidates should be able to assist property owners, developers, builders, and businesses in determining required applications and guiding them through the permit and licensing process
  • The candidates should be able to conduct bylaw checks to ensure proposals, applications, and Real Property Reports comply with applicable land use bylaws
  • The candidates should be able to interpret and educate customers about current and previous land use bylaws
  • The candidates should be able to review customer business license requests to determine appropriate license types and ensure adherence to land use and business license bylaws
  • The candidates should be able to respond to customer and citizen inquiries, requests, and complaints regarding various bylaws through multiple channels, including in person, telephone, and web chat
