Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the physical ability to perform the assigned duties, including the ability to climb poles and towers and work outdoors in various weather conditions

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a Saskatchewan Journeyman Powerline Technician Certificate and possess or be able to successfully complete within 6 months after the date of hire a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A Driver’s Licence
  • The candidates should provide a current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record
  • The candidates should have knowledge of overhead and underground distribution systems and the ability to learn new system developments
  • The candidates should have establish and maintain effective working relationships and work with minimal supervision

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground transmission, distribution, and street lighting systems, work on both energized and de-energized low-voltage and high-voltage lines and equipment
  • The candidates should be able to climb poles, towers, or use aerial buckets, ladders, or platforms to work at various heights, install, inspect, patrol, maintain, repair, replace, connect, and disconnect various distribution system components such as feeders, poles, pole structures, line hardware, insulators, arrestors, transformers, conductors, cables, splices, taps, and metering tanks
  • The candidates should be able to ensure adherence to proper work procedures, safety standards, and construction specifications, use protective equipment such as insulated gloves, line hoses, hoods, blankets, and hot-line tools when working with energized equipment, install, replace, and maintain service lines and cables for customers, responding to reports of power interruptions
  • The candidates should be able to locate and repair electrical faults efficiently, record load and voltage readings using volt-amp meters, maximeters, and recorders
  • The candidates should be able to perform tests using phasing equipment, phase rotation testers, meggers, ground resistance testers, and cable fault equipment, participate in safety and first aid programs, training of apprentices, and tool and equipment inspections
  • The candidates should be able to maintain all tools and equipment related to the trade and trim trees that interfere with the electrical system and perform other related duties
