Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, geography and resource management
Experience: Candidates should have five years of demonstrated experience in conservation property management

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of conducting field work in remote locations and on difficult terrain
  • The candidates should be open to some travel and overnight travel, including by ferry and water taxi

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have related fields as defined by the professional association and be registered, or immediately eligible to register, as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) with the BC College of Applied Biologists (CAB) in good standing, or able and willing to become one within 3-6 months. Confirmation of registration or eligibility is required before an offer of employment
  • The candidates should have at least two years of demonstrated experience in conservation or ecological field work or ecological monitoring
  • The candidates should hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s license and experience in staff management and project management
  • The candidates should have experience with public sector procurement and experience with property management in southwestern British Columbia
  • The candidates should have experience with database management and experience engaging Indigenous Governing Bodies regarding natural resource management and experience working with Indigenous Peoples
  • The candidates should have successfully completed security screening requirements of the BC Public Service

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to develop or oversee the development of policies, procedures, strategies, and plans related to protected area management, including ecological assessment, property monitoring, risk management, and biodiversity management
  • The candidates should be able to provide strategic input and assist staff on projects and activities related to habitat protection, restoration, covenant monitoring, and infrastructure management
  • The candidates should be able to oversee the implementation of policies, procedures, strategies, and plans for protected area management
  • The candidates should be able to manage issues related to human safety, ecological health, and Species at Risk
  • The candidates should be able to support the procurement of services from external service providers and manage ITC data
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with island landholders, communities, and conservation groups to ensure the ongoing management and maintenance of protected areas
