Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a high school diploma
Experience: Candidates should have 6 years of practical or general experience in the mentioned fields applicable to the trade
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays in all weather conditions
- The candidates should have the ability to pass the required written examinations, read and understand safety instructions, rules, regulations, and other written or printed material in English
- The candidates should have a proven dedication to safety and the ability to complete work within guidelines or rules
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have general equivalency diploma, a valid driver’s license and undergo a criminal history check
- The candidates should possess one of the following: Red Seal in Heavy-Duty Mechanics, Automotive Technician, Agriculture Equipment Technician, Truck and Transport Technician, Recreation Vehicle Service Technician, or Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), and, or possess a Unifor Local 101R card
- The candidates should have strong communication skills and be able to provide clear and concise instructions or directions, drivers license verification and education verification
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to maintain, inspect, service, test, and repair all systems on locomotives, mobile equipment, and vehicles used in plant, yard, and road service
- The candidates should be able to diagnose diesel engine malfunctions and make repairs within regulatory and company guidelines
- The candidates should be able to complete work in accordance with blueprints, schematic drawings, and service manuals
- The candidates should be able to evaluate parts for reuse, repair, or replacement and perform non-structural welding, adjustment, and calibration to mechanical components
- The candidates should be able to modify and construct mechanical assemblies and perform maintenance of low voltage repairs on locomotive electrical systems
- The candidates should be able to service locomotive cabs, which includes cleaning cab walls, locomotive toilets, windows, and floors
- The candidates should be able to operate equipment such as overhead or mobile cranes, forklifts, and hand tools
