Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a High School Diploma
Experience: Candidates should have work experience in similar working conditions or regulatory and safety environments

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be available for shift work, with occasional overtime and long periods of travel are required, including overnight stays
  • the candidates should be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 70 pounds
  • The candidates should be at least 18 years of age and performed outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditions

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience operating heavy equipment and machinery and medical fitness for duty requirements for the position, including safety requirements
  • The candidates should possess General Education Diploma (GED) and hold a valid driver’s license
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, adapt to different situations, and manage stress
  • The candidates should demonstrate good teamwork and maintain positive interactions with others and display common sense and good judgment
  • The candidates should be dedicated to getting the job done while meeting established standards of quality, safety, productivity, and client satisfaction
  • The candidates should possess hand-eye coordination and grasping skills, Welding skills and knowledge of signals or Railroad Operating Rules

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to maintain CN’s train rails, ties, switches, and ballasts through inspection, repair, and replacement
  • The candidates should be able to remove and replace defective ties, rail spikes, and anchors
  • The candidates should be able to repair deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge and sort used track material for loading
  • The candidates should be able to install and repair street and railroad crossings, and assist in the replacement or repair of items such as power-operated switches and insulated joints
  • The candidates should be able to unload ballasts and distribute track material and maintain various hand tools for assigned work
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the railroad right-of-way is clear of brush, vegetation, snow, and litter
  • The candidates should be able to ensure a safe working environment by following CN’s safety policies and procedures
