Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an accredited nursing education program
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2 years of recent acute medicine nursing experience and a strong clinical interest in geriatrics

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to lift and turn patients safely utilizing appropriate techniques and equipment (IYM)
  • The candidates should have the ability to lift and transfer up to 50 lbs. up to 25% of the time, utilizing appropriate equipment and techniques
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to work and lead in a team environment
  • The candidates should have demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families in stressful situations
  • The candidates should be able to work in a fast-paced department that is variable, unpredictable, and has competing priorities

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification and current Required Organizational Learning (ROL)
  • The candidates should have recent Charge Nurse experience and active participation in discharge planning
  • The candidates should have a strong understanding of COACT principles and strong clinical and assessment skills, including patient assessment, IV certification, CVC/PICC certification, Foley insertion, and Glucometer certification
  • The candidates should have the necessary skills to work with patients with dementia, brain and spinal cord injuries, and patients who have challenging behaviors and excellent interpersonal communication, effective time management, and organizational skills required to work with the multidisciplinary team
  • The candidates should have strong conflict resolution and case management skills and demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with all members of the healthcare team and with patients and family members
  • The candidates should have relevant senior’s and geriatric health education, which is highly and Connect Care experience

  • The candidates should be able to provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, ensuring their safety and well-being
  • The candidates should be able to utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making
  • The candidates should be able to teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families
  • The candidates should be able to play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to provide safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS
