Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have 3-year diploma/degree in Mechanical, Electromechanical, Mechanical Design and Drafting or a related field of study
Experience: Candidates should have 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment (Equivalency will be considered)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in the operation and maintenance of additive manufacturing equipment such as 3D printers
  • The candidates should possess experience in 3D CAD/CAM software such as AutoCAD, MasterCam, Solidworks
  • The candidates should have experience in design and fabrication, including CNC programming/machining and computer-controlled cutting tools, including waterjets
  • The candidates should demonstrate experience in robotics and automation systems, including programming robotics and PLC systems

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide technical and operational support for the Advanced Manufacturing labs as a Research Technologist in the Centre for Intelligent Manufacturing (CIM).
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the smooth operations of all lab activities and actively contribute to decision-making processes as an integral member of the team
  • The candidates should be able to assist in planning and executing internal and external CIM research projects, including installing, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting equipment
  • The candidates should be able to support project planning and budgeting activities and occasionally be responsible for evaluating, selecting, and installing new technologies
  • The candidates should be able to support the execution of research projects within CIM, focusing on areas such as robotics, computer-aided design, 3D printing, fabrication, CNC machining, water jet cutting, and PLC programming
  • The candidates should be able to participate in meetings with clients to consult on available equipment and expertise for project completion
  • The candidates should be able to proactively troubleshoot machines to detect problems and determine appropriate courses of action for repair
  • The candidates should be able to provide support in assigning tasks, recommending courses of action, and ensuring safety during execution for students working on research projects or lab maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to research new equipment to support the strategic expansion of CIM and make recommendations to the Research Manager and/or Director of the CIM department
  • The candidates should be able to ensure hazardous materials are stored safely and properly labeled in compliance with WHIMS and Sheridan Health and Safety Guidelines
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as assigned
