Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have maintained CROR rules qualification
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience or as required by regulations as a qualified and practicing railway locomotive engineer

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to coach, train, and mentor locomotive engineers, conductors, and students
  • The candidates should have effective communication skills and the ability to relay effective instruction to conductors and locomotive engineers regarding train handling and safety rules, practices, policies, and procedures

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a strong working knowledge of railroad operating rules and regulations, including special or dimensional handling, TIH, hours of work, and locomotive standards
  • The candidates should have a strong working knowledge of railway operations and a working knowledge of the relevant Collective Agreement and its application to locomotive engineers and conductors
  • The candidates should have management or supervisory experience and strong facilitation skills

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform locomotive engineer and train crew field evaluations, plan and execute remedial training activities for those found deficient through field evaluations and rules violations
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate and deliver new hire conductor training, including oversight of field-level on-the-job training
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate and oversee triennial recertification training for conductors and locomotive engineers within the area of responsibility and perform field efficiency testing
  • The candidates should be able to provide input into training course content by identifying problem areas observed in field evaluations and proficiency testing
  • The candidates should be able to deliver any required skills training for conductors and locomotive engineers in the area of responsibility
  • The candidates should be able to respond to and provide expert analysis of train handling exceptions, incidents, and derailments, implementing corrective training and maintain availability as required 24/7
