Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field
Experience: Candidates should have experience providing Social Work services including assessments, consultation, case management, psycho-social counselling, crisis intervention and referrals

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience providing support to children/youth experiencing social/emotional difficulties and have training in Critical Incident Stress Response/Debriefing and/or Violent Threat Risk Assessment
  • The candidates should have experience working in rural settings and have experience working in partnership with First Nations community to localize supports
  • The candidates should have the ability to work collaboratively and maintain an authentic relationship with the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations people, community Elders, and families, promoting greater community involvement in school-based activities and educational programming
  • The candidates should demonstrate strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to evaluate and record progress, and motivate learners and have a solid understanding of a philosophy of inclusive education
  • The candidates should possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills to work with parents and caregivers, staff members, coaches, the First Nation School Board, and other partners
  • The candidates should have a passion for developing and maintaining strong and respectful relationships and trust with students, their families, and the community as a whole
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to implement restorative practice and positive behavioral interventions and supports
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to implement effective support systems to assist students (mentorship opportunities, and study groups)
  • The candidates should have knowledge of, and the ability to implement, developmentally responsive care and restorative practices
  • The candidates should have a Security Clearance, including Vulnerable Sector Check and possess a valid class 5 driver’s licence and be willing and able to travel within Yukon
  • The candidates should be eligible to be registered as a Social Worker in a Canadian College of Social Workers

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Manager of Wellbeing and work hand in hand with the First Nation School Board, Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, and School Staff
  • The candidates should be able to provide a wide variety of direct supports and consultation to students, families, and school staff at St. Elias Community school
  • The candidates should be able to work collaboratively with learners, families, First Nation Government, community service providers, and educators to identify learners’ concerns and provide supportive services contributing to the success of all learners
  • The candidates should be able to play an important role in working in partnership with the First Nation to localize and provide supports grounded in Champagne and Aishihik First Nations ways
